Gaultier's Muse, Paris Spring Couture 2012: Amy

Jean Paul Gaultier took direct inspiration from Amy Winehouse for his Couture 2012 show. Complete with on the catwalk signers belting out her tunes in that Back to Black fashion.

The homage is endearing and a tribute to the late songstress but her family feels differently. Recently it was revealed that they were not consulted and learned of the collection with the rest of the world. You can't stop art and I do believe that this was done with the best of intentions - here's hoping that the collection honours her legacy (financially perhaps, JPG?).

Vogue: Cover Virgins

Can you believe that both of these remarkable women are first time cover girls for Vogue? Florence Welch and Meryl Streep. Perhaps, Meryl is the bigger mystery.

In any case, I prefer one over the other (but I'm judgmental). Florence looks uncomfortable, teeth clenched and eyes vacant. I feel sorry for the cover, she's a beautiful artist with heart and soul and guts. She looks rather frightened here. Meryl on the other hand. She's a bit come hither, a bit "what the fuck took you so long". She's strong and smart. Not a model, but not backing down.

Both photo stories are lovely (Florence's series is much better between the pages) and all of the images manage to reflect not only the woman but also the respective photographers, Mario Testino for Florence and Annie Leibovitz for Meryl.

Other famous faces gracing the ads of this campaign include Keith Richards, Tony Blair, and Mikhail Gorbachev. Louis Vuitton is trying to harken back to a time when the brand was known for luggage and quality travel pieces. In any case, Angelina Jolie looks stunning.

I love this Fedora. Philip Tracey originally from County Galway, is genius. You know his work from the likes of Princess Kate and Beatrice. As a milliner, he is remarkable. Christian Dior has moved ahead to dismiss John Galliano for alleged anti-Semitic remarks reported late last week.

This is the end of an era for the iconic design house who has staunchly separated themselves from the statements made by Galliano. "I very firmly condemn what was said by John Galliano, which totally contradicts the values which have always been defended by Christian Dior," Christian Dior Chief Executive Sidney Toledano said in a statement.

Personality Reigns at the 2011 Oscars

I don't want to get into the best and worst of it this year. The Oscars this year were not exactly memorable, but we did get to see some really classic dressing. The looks were neither over the top nor were they underwhelming. The women looked comfortable, and one thing that was trending was the personal approach to dressing. Many of the attendees looked like they belonged in the dresses. We do not know these women, but what we assume about them was in deed reflected in their choice of frock. My favorites...

The part that's way beyond beautiful is that every woman here looks like she belongs in this dress. From Jennifer Hudson celebrating herself, to Cate Blanchett taking fashionable risks, the dresses help each woman shine.

Girl can barely hold her head up, has been wearing the same threadbare ballet slippers since who knows when and is pugnacious at best. Her voice can knock you out (if she hasn't knocked too many back) and her honest lyrics are totally relate-able, if you squint your eyes and use your imagination.

But what of her design skills? Winehouse has somehow designed, and modeled her creations for Fred Perry. That's right folks, she's standing up pretty darn straight. The looks, below, are reminiscent of the '50's. I think roller skates and drive-ins. Perfect for Winehouse's persona. Will I buy? Not likely - unless I'm golfing in a '50's theme tournament...wait. Can we do that!?

The cover of the Art Issue, for a fashion mag would intuitively have some arty and way beyond beautiful fashion gracing the glossy cover, no? Or is it so artistic and so fashionable, that neither are necessary?

Put It On, Take it Off...or, Fall Dressing.

Just back from a lunch time stroll to the library for some chick lit and decorating books. Decked out in levi's skinny jeans, Ralph Lauren riding boots, and a perfect shade of blue cowl neck sweater from tna topped with Raybans and a purse from a street vendor in way beyond beautiful Florence. I was pretty happy with my look. Not ten minutes down the street and I'm stripping. Enter my fall dressing reminder. Layer or swelter in your sweater.

But how disappointing to have crafted a look, that with one motion (or a few if you get stuck on your earring) you revert to that tank that you wouldn't wear to the gym with a bra that is a little too pink for public.

Bringing me to what my Mom calls the ultimate accessory. Confidence. I rocked that tank look all the way to the library and back this time. Will it happen again? Not this year! And, I've learned my layering lesson. Again.

My last post was 3 days before I moved into my first home (that I own) and out of my lovely city, Toronto.

I live in the country now. I ride horses a few times a week, have a home office, sail, and go to the same cafe for coffee every day (ok, some things stay the same).

I wear plaid a little more than I used to, my wellies are actually warranted and my fedora stands out (unless I'm near the Legion). This is yet another effort to keep up, look around and report back. It's way beyond beautiful here, in the County, and around every corner I'm inspired. The food, the drink (ohhhh the drink) the clothes, albeit utilitarian at times and the people are beauties and I'm hoping they egg me on to write, write, write...

Bandwagon: Ashely Rowe [Splat?]ter Tees

Maybe it's my microcosm, but a day doesn't go by (since last week) that my twitter feed isn't sprouting about Splatter Tees. I need to know what you think. I can't decide. I'm trying to be supportive, open minded, happy for and and advocate of Ashley Rowe's Splatter Tees but I can't help but feel it's been done. And that is fashion, yes. But - where is the tweak of innovation? Is it the scooped neck and bottom? What about the effort? I get that too - but these are really, very elementary (no really. I made a few in grade 6. And one that had a tree on it).

So, have a look at the splat and spit out your thoughts. Will you be wearing one (at $75 per)? Ps. They have sold out once already. DIY? Would Ashley Rowe be flattered and recognize that she has inspired a league of splatter designers diy-ing it? Or pissed off. TBD.

Yes, I understand that this is the most wishy washy review you've ever read. My opinion is that I don't have one. I can't figure it out, I need to see these walking down the street - and Ossington doesn't count.

I'm sorry I check out what you're wearing. From head to toe. It's rude, but I love your look (or would suggest something else). I've done this forever. On my way to a great patio lunch the other day I noticed a killer vintage vibe walking my way. Of course I took it all in, the shoes were YSL-esq and the dress was an adorable green silk shift. Too cute right?! Well I probably offended her and embarrassed myself.

I took to the interweb to see what others think, and of course there is a Facebook page dedicated to this. Checking people out. There are over 12,000 people in this group. So, I'm not alone. But - I'm not scoping your butt, I'm taking in your britches. Is there a difference between checking a guy/gal out and checking out their clothes? I hope so.

So, if you see me or anyone else, innocently taking in your gear don't be offended. We're simply appreciating the effort you no doubt put in.

Spadina Ave Toronto Fashion Faux Pas

I have been meaning to post this for some time now. Spadina Avenue in Toronto has a barrage of bizarre boutiques that specialize in bridal, prom and evening wear. To that, I'm certain that all stock was ordered in 1999. A favorite amongst my friends is Classy Collection Boutique. They have the most out of date, hoochie mama, polyester dresses I have ever ever seen. I swear those dresses make me itch just looking at them. Behold, a window display:

Boning in blue on the outside of the torso, and I'm sure that this is not in response to this seasons innerwear as outerwear trend. I'll try to keep you abreast of any other fantastically surprising confections that I stroll past over lunch. They are, at least, amusing.

The cut out trend is one I'm happy to see come, and go. All I see is the early '90's, and not the good. Just the bad and the ugly. I'm sorry but this has to stop. Besides "daring" celebs, this look is often attempted by the absolute worst body type for the style. And, in my opinion, that's ALL body types. Imagine yourself squeezing through the cutout. Just think about that look for a second.

I am loving Shabby Chic right now. I feel like such an English Rose when I even so much as think about a bergere chair or Louis sofa. The fresh, white ease of the style is romantic and glamorous without being over thought and prissy.
